There are five new faces in Room 8. Rainbow, Neon, Popcorn and Jake joined our class just before Easter. They have settled in really well and the boys and girls love taking care of them. Rainbow is very greedy and if you put your finger near the water he comes up to have a little nibble. He loves his food! Last Monday we arrived in after the weekend to see a brand new fish zooming around the tank. His name is Shaggy and he is a very cool little guy. He was feeling a little bit lonely living on his own so his owners brought him in to play with our fishy friends. He is already part of the gang and is best friends with Neon (they follow each other around nonstop). Next time you are passing Room 8 make sure you drop in to say hi to the gang!

4th class took part in a very tense competition today.
The Countdown Championship tested our spelling, maths and problem solving skills. The gold medal game was a nail biting finale that went all the way to the final Countdown Conundrum. So it was just one little word that separated gold from silver! I wonder can the champion defend his title when we play again later in the year? A huge well done to all the medalists! We had lots of fun recently designing and building our giant robots. It took a long time to finish the project and Mr Keogh wasn't very happy with the huge mess we made in the classroom but it was all worth it in the end. :) We put our robots on display outside Sandra's office.
We were talking about gravity in science recently. One of our experiments was to drop an egg out the classroom window. As we predicted, it smashed and made a very sticky mess!
We were then split into groups and given another egg. Our challenge was to design and build a parachute to stop our egg from cracking when we dropped it out the window. We were only allowed to use items found in our classroom. We designed our parachutes using our lunch bags, wool, paper, sellotape, sandwich bags and tissue paper. It was great fun building our designs and most of the eggs made it back to the classroom in one piece. :) We have just started reading a new novel all about life during the Great Famine. It’s called ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ and it was written by Marita Conlon-McKenna. We made our own hawthorn tree display during art.
4th class are in the middle of a very competitive Checkers Championship.
Check back soon to see who is crowned the Champion! During the month of December the boys and girls from 4th class organised a collection in the school as part of the Radio Nova Kits for Christmas Appeal in aid of the ISPCC. The appeal was a great success so we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated a jersey.
![]() This week we were learning about Area in Maths. We made our own metre squares out of newspaper to help us calculate the area of different parts of the school. We also calculated different areas by measuring the length and width of spaces and then multiplying the two numbers together to find the area. |
