![]() Over the last few months, 5th class have been doing paired reading with the reception class. This is a great teaching technique where the younger children in our school get the oppertunity to listen to and learn various reading skills from the older classes. So far it has been a huge success. Our infants have really enjoyed listening to stories read by our class, and we love Tuesday mornings when we get to read to them too!!!!

This month to celebrate the London Olympics we learned all about the history of the Olymics since it first started. Our student teacher Ms. Bardon made a fantastic slideshow teaching us all about it, from when it first started in Greece to all the sports that athletes can complete in. We each created new Olympic logos to take the place of the famous Olympic rings and displayed these in our classroom. To finish our Olympic theme we made medals out of clay, spray painted them gold and then put a green ribbon on them to show how many medals the Irish team are going to win this year in London!! Have a look at our photos below to see how we made them. ![]() Last Monday we got a great surprise. While we were doing our drama lesson with our drama teacher Aoife, there was a knock on the door. It was Mr. Murphy!!! He came in to say hello to us all but we convinced him to stay and do some mimes with us. He gave us a great laugh with his interesting mimes and added so much to our class. Great to see you Mr. Murphy and thanks for popping in. You're welcome to join our class any day!!! On Friday 4th May we brought our theme of "water" to life and took a school trip to Bray to visit Sealife. What an amazing day we had! We headed out on our adventure on the DART and saw all the sights of Killiney, Dun Laoghaire and even caught a glimpse of the Aviva Stadium along the way. Read some of our diary entries below on how our day went and what we learned:

We have been doing some fantastic and interesting lessons over the last few weeks. Our first theme was "water" and we focused on the Titanic. We learned some fascinating facts about that distressing night in April 1912 when the "unsinkable ship" sank! We were shocked to find out that there were only twenty lifeboats on board when there should have been thirty-two!!!! Have a look at our Titanic artwork. We used the technique "marbling" to create the sea effect with blue green and black ink. Vincent Van Gogh would love to be in our art classes!!! Mr. Murphy what can we say?
We can’t believe it’s your retirement day!! You are the tallest principal of them all, You make everyone else look really small. All your costumes are really cool, And they’ve always cheered up our school. From James Bond to Elvis, there have been a few, But the best thing of all is just being you! You are a really big Dubs fan, You even brought us in the Sam. You love your cups of coffee, But we all know you’re a big softie! You are the best principal of all, Your door is always open if we need to call. You always listen and check we’re ok, You knock on the door, “how are they today?” We know you like your intercom, Your announcements suddenly come on : “Tia to my office” is what you say, Or “detention in room 10 today.” Mr Murphy you are very respectful and fair, We know that you really, really care. Even when we’re in trouble and bold, You still have a heart of gold. You know everybody’s name individually, And respect us all equally. To finish our poem we’d like to say, You are the best in every way. Mr Murphy we all know your name is Seamus, In St. Joseph’s East Wall you’ll always be famous!!! Have a look at the Hallowe'en pumpkins we created from clay. We had great fun!!!!! Have a look at the Hallowe'en pumpkins we created from clay. We had great fun!!!!!
![]() What do you think of our art? A mosaic is a form of art where we use tiny colourful tiles to create a picture or pattern. As you can see we have been making these colourful mosaics. Some of us worked individually to create our own personal mosaic and others worked in a group to design a large one. This is your new blog post. We have been learning all about the Solar System in 5th class. We went to our school library and searched for all the books we could find about the different planets and then researched all the interesting facts that we needed for our project.
Our computer teacher Michael helped us create a powerpoint presentation called "Our Solar Sytem." We typed up all our facts and then looked on the internet for pictures of the planets. We are going to upload our class presentation |
