Well Done to Chloe De Vaal on winning best book review in 5th class. Chloe explained the story very clearly and presented her work very neatly in her book review.
To mark finishing the book, each school involved was invited to O' Connell's school for the official closing ceremony Each school was asked to prepare a piece of work based on the novel. With such a good standard of actors in the class, Miss Phelan decided to choose 7 volunteers to act out scenes from the novel. The children involved put in a lot of hard work staying behind after school and Miss Phelan was very proud of them as they performed on stage. Video of the performance to follow!!
After 2 enjoyable months, 5th class have just completed reading the novel "Across the divide". Schools in the North Inner City were reading the book and each school completed different activities based on the novel. The class really enjoyed reading the book as it explored the lives of two 10 year old children named Liam and Nora coming from very different backgrounds in Dublin 1913.
5th class were very busy writing letters, diary entries, book reviews and predictions all about Liam and Nora. All the class would agree that it was a very exciting read and they would all recommend reading it. Samples of the children's work below. After the Christmas holidays, 5th class began working on their career projects for the N.C.I. Each group were given a different career to research including mechanic, veterinary nurse, web designer, human resource manager, solicitor and youth worker. The children worked during home and school time to gather their research and as a result presented fantastic projects. Their work was displayed in the NCI for a school's exhibition on February 27th.
During the exhibition, different judges quizzed the children on their projects. Each group presented their project very well and Miss Phelan was really impressed with how well each group spoke and listened to the judges. The children will visit the other classes in the school to show their projects very soon. |
