To finish our study of the War of Independence and the Irish Civil War, we went of a field trip to Collins Barracks. We completed a history trail in the Soldiers and Chiefs Exhibition and explored what life was for new recruits when Collins Barracks was Richmond Military Barracks. We were all quite sad to see the uniform Michael Collins was wearing when he was short at Beal na Bláth in his native Cork as we had been studying all about him in history class. Unfortunately, we couldn't take photos of the exhibition but we took some later!. We also had chance to practice military drills using replica weapons. Two of our classmates challenged each other to a duel in the courtyard and the results were hilarious!!

We looked at the designs of Philip Treacy and then designed our own hats. Have a look at our work in progress. We hope to have a fashion show parading our new hats. Bring on the catwalk!!
