Today we were experimenting with acids and bases.
We started off by making an indicator liquid. Mr K boiled some red cabbage and then drained away the purple water. (Our room now stinks of cabbage!!) :-( We made some predictions and then used the purple liquid to test if our other solutions were acids, bases or neutral. Our Results Vinegar, lemon juice and orange juice are acids that turn the liquid pink or red. Sodium bicarbonate is a base and it turns the liquid green or blue. Water is neutral so the colour does not change. We then experimented by mixing acids and bases together. You can neutralise an acid by adding a base!
