After a great day of playing football in the sun, the East Wall boys returned home today as the Champions of Dublin!
Eight of the boys traveled to Irishtown Stadium to represent the school in the Spar 5-a-side Dublin Finals. This is only our third year in the competition but the boys put in a huge effort to finish the day with the winners trophy and champions medals in hand! Scott, Joel, Nicolas, Jack, Oscar, Warren, Callum and Cameron all played their part in what turned out to be a monumental victory for our school. After a nervous opening draw against St. Margaret's, the boys put in the best performance of the year in their second game where they comprehensively defeated a very strong Rutland Street team. From there confidence grew and the boys won their next two group games comfortably to book a place in the final. Our Lady of the Wayside from Bluebell were the opposition in the final. The Bluebell boys had dominated their group to make it to the final and started the game full of confidence. Cameron scored two early breakaway goals to rock Bluebell's resoluteness and settle any early East Wall nerves. Callum soon added two more and The Wallers were flying. Bluebell came back into the game after a fine solo effort from their danger man. East Wall responded with a 5th of their own, Warren adding to his tally for the day with another well taken strike. Cameron completed his hat-trick to move St. Joseph's to within touching distance of the title. Their #17 effortlessly skipped through the East Wall defence again twice in the space of as many minutes to close the gap to 3 but time was not on Bluebell's side. East Wall now progress to the Leinster Finals in Navan later this month as the Dublin representatives! Well done to all the boys and best of luck!
