Homework
Why is homework beneficial for your child?
- Homework is given to reinforce work that the child has already covered in school.
- Homework also enables parents to become more involved in their child’s learning.
Guidelines
- Homework is given in our school from Monday to Thursday.
- It is generally not given at weekends or during school holidays.
- Reading is given every night from Junior Infants to 6th.
- Dictation and tables are given every night from 1st to 6th.
- Homework should always be neat and tidy.
Parent’s Role

Parents can help by:
1. Ensuring that a suitable time and place are set aside for homework.
2. Ensuring that the homework has been completed to the best of the child’s ability.
3. Ensuring that the homework journal is signed when the parent is satisfied that all of the work has been completed to the best of the child’s ability.
4. Ensuring that they check the homework journal every night as the journal may be used as a system of communication between parent and teacher.

The following are appropriate time allocations for homework for each class:
Reception : 10 mins
Junior Infants: 15 mins Senior Infants: 15-20 mins |
First: 20 mins approx
Second: 20-25 mins Third: 30 mins approx |
Fourth: 30-40 mins
Fifth: 40mins- 1 hour Sixth: 40 mins- 1 hour |
