ICT in our schoolWhat is ICT?
ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology. Technology has impacted hugely on how we live our lives and has started to make a big impact on how we teach and learn in school. ICT is seen as an important resource that can help in the teaching of any subject. How is ICT used in our school? Our ICT facilities are of a very high standard. We have a dedicated computer room and interactive white boards in every class. The staff and pupils also have access to a number of digital cameras and video recorders which are used during class in a number of different ways, for example, taking pictures and videos for project work, and updating the class blog and school website. As well as working with their own class teachers, all children in classes 1st to 6th receive tuition from Futurekids, the expert ICT teaching company who visit our school each week. Mr. Michael Travers has been running this programme for the past 8 years, where the children improve their computer skills and learn how to use the main programmes in the Microsoft Office suite. Children from 5th and 6th have even been introduced to html programming and coding! School Website Our school website is our window to the world. Using blogs, videos and photographs, the different learning styles of our pupils are accommodated as they convey why, what and how they learn in school. Check out the different class blogs on this website to find out what each class has been learning recently! We would like to say a special thank you to Ms. Catríona Ní Cassaithe, a class teacher, for all her hard work designing the school website and all her advice on how to make ICT an enjoyable and worthwhile part of our school life. |
