Last Friday, the children from 4th, 5th and 6th class were treated to the premiere performance of a song to celebrate the 1911 schoolboys' strike which happened here in this school just over a century ago.
Paul O'Brien, a musician native to East Wall but now living in The Netherlands, composed the song based on old newspaper cuttings and school registers. The song tells of how the young boys organised a mass boycott of the school for a number of days in order to highlight the huge cost of schoolbooks and the use of corporal punishment. The event, which was recorded by Near TV, was organised by the East Wall History Group.
