Sixth class completed a course with Ulster Bank on managing finances called MoneySense. We planned a party in groups, focusing on budgeting and prioritising what is most important to us. Every group prioritised their friends and family having a nice time over expensive entertainers and presents. We found the party planning very useful for planning for our confirmation day and reflected on what is the most important part of the day for us. We hope to have a lovely day with our friends and families.
We were delighted to receive a shopping bag, certificate, pencil and key ring from Ulster Bank! Sixth class have been very busy creating beautiful Christmas crafts. We created salt dough decorations by following a recipe which we found online. We shaped the dough using cutters and Ms Murphy brought them home to bake. We then decorated using paint, PVA and glitter. We brainstormed ideas for other Christmas crafts and decided to make snow globes. We brought in jars, decorated the lids and filled with water and glitter. If you look through our snow globes you will see pictures of us in Ovoca. They will be a lovely keepsake from our time in 6th class! Our decorations are on display outside our class if you would like to come and admire! 6th class would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and best wishes for 2020 :) In 6th class we used the work of Wassily Kandinsky to inspire our creative pieces. Kandinsky’s Squares with Concentric Circles perhaps, Kandinsky's most recognisable work, is a small study on how different colour combinations are perceived. For Kandinsky, colour meant more than just a visual component of a picture. Colour is its soul. In his books, he described his own perspective on how colours interacted with each other and with the spectator in detail and very poetically. Kandinsky was a synaesthete, i.e. he could ‘hear colours’ and ‘see sounds.’
We sketched our trees using pencil and then carefully painted the circles. We then used coloured tissue to finish off our trees 6th class had an amazing trip to Ovoca Manor on the 26th of November. Ovoca Manor is a retreat and adventure centre located in the stunning Vale of Avoca, Co Wicklow. We were very fortunate that Ms Coady volunteered to accompany us on our trip.
Although the weather was wet on the day this did not dampen our spirits. We spent the morning taking part in fun team building activities:
The afternoon activities were more relaxed, we discussed moving to secondary school and the choices we will have to make in our lives. We finished the day with a lovely drama based on Scripture. Amber, Sean, Sam and Calum all took part and it was very entertaining! We are very excited about returning to Ovoca Manor in 2020! |
